Being Miserable Is Tiresome
“What is wrong with me?”
“This is embarrassing! I’m an adult, and my emotions are running my life!”
“I am over feeling tired, worried, crazy, depressed, and hopeless! I am sick of the sleepless nights, the escape behaviors (cutting, drinking, edibles, shopping), and the lack of direction in my life. Everything feels dismal! I need help!”
Wanting Change, But Unsure How
“I’m ready to make a change, but I have no idea where to start. With this depression, anxiety, and all these high emotions, it feels like trying to navigate a Black Friday sale on the moon!”
Despite having the word “help” in them, those self-help books you picked up from Powell’s did not prove to be very helpful. Podcasts, blog articles, mobile apps—no relief.
You may have even tried my favorite skill of “waiting for things to change,” which also produces unimpressive results.
Help Is Here
I get it! You are having a really tough time all-out breakdown.
You are in the right place.
It is common for clients to wonder, “Can things improve?” or “Is there hope, even for me?”
The answer is yes! Therapy works! There is help for the symptoms you’ve been experiencing. Therapy can help many people, and it can help you, too.
I am here to help: a compassionate, caring professional trained in evidence-based treatments designed to treat the symptoms you’ve been having.
I have worked with many individuals experiencing various symptoms, most of whom feel that therapy with me has improved their lives substantially.
It Begins By Establishing a Relationship
The first several sessions will allow us time to get to know one another and build trust.
Individual therapy is about you feeling seen, heard, and respected.
We’ll take an in-depth look at your symptoms. I ask specific questions, such as what brought you to therapy, what in life is going well and not so well, and what symptoms you have been having and for how long.
Creating a Roadmap to Healing
Before we start on this journey, we make sure that we agree on our course of action.
Like any journey, we need to create a mutually agreed-upon roadmap that leads to solving your problems.
I will ask what goals you would like to accomplish during your time in therapy.
Remember, no problem is too big or too small to be explored in therapy.
Conversations Lead to Relief and Insight
As we continue our work together, you’ll notice our sessions become more like a conversation.
At the start of each session, I’ll invite you to share what’s on your mind, what has happened in your life over the last week, what may be bothering you, and if there are any goals you’d like to discuss.
Some sessions are focused on helping you gain more immediate relief from your symptoms. Other sessions pertain more to helping you gain insight into how your past experiences are influencing your symptoms.
Put Insight Into Practice
For most sessions, we will work together to identify a goal for you to accomplish before our next week’s meeting. The practice is essential for you to gain relief.
Examples include engaging in an activity that week to bring you more joy or increase structure, like getting a cup of coffee at your favorite coffee house or spending time outdoors.
Other examples may include increasing connection by reaching out to a supportive family member or a friend or practicing one of the skills we have discussed in the session.
Forget the Misery—Attain Some New Goals
Setting small, realistic, achievable goals throughout treatment enables clients to experience the most relief from their symptoms.
Relief is what I ultimately want for you!
